Practice the /n/ sound with these words:
"can,"
"corn," and...
"bun."
To practice phrases, ask your child what kinds of canned food she sees. Targets may include, "can of corn," "can of oranges," and "can of green beans."
To practice sentences, ask your child what foods we eat on a bun. Targets may include, "We eat hots dogs on a bun," "We eat hamburgers on a bun," and "We eat sausages on a bun."
To practice conversation, ask your child about the different ways she can eat corn. Targets may include, "I can eat corn on the cob. That's my favorite. We can also eat popped corn. I eat it at the movies. We can eat corn from the can."
To cue for the /n/ sound, instruct your child to put her tongue behind
her top teeth (you may want to use your finger to show her exactly where
to put it, which is the ridge behind the top teeth on the roof of one's
mouth). Then, ask her to prolong the /n/ sound. Have her feel under her
nose, where the air should be coming out. You can also use a mirror or
metal spoon under the nose to see the "fog."
Tip: If you can't get to Giant Eagle on cold, snowy days like the ones we've been having, try looking at the weekly circular for targets.
